Registrar Contract - Department of Medicine

Contractual agreement between appointee in registrar post and the Department of Medicine of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Tygerberg Academic Hospital.
 
 
I, ……………………………………………………………… hereby agree to the following on being appointed registrar: 
 
1. I understand that my appointment is on a contractual basis with renewal required annually subject to satisfactory service and academic performance
2. I will complete all components of the Faculty Programme on Research Methodology within the first year of my appointment 
3. I shall endeavour to complete my FCP Part I examination within 12 months of taking up my appointment as a registrar. I will successfully complete my FCP Part I within 18 months of taking up my appointment. 
4. I will attend at least 60% of all formal Departmental academic activities annually1,2. This allows for leave and rotation at sites which do not permit easy access to the Department. 
5. I undertake to register my research assignment with the Faculty in my  1st  year, complete said research assignment within 3 years of appointment,  and understand that I will not be allowed to write the FCP Part II unless it is completed 
6. I will make every effort to have my research assignment published in a peer-reviewed journal
7. I understand that I have no more than 4 years to complete my training.
8. I understand that failure to comply with the above requirements may result in my being requested to leave the registrar rotation or being refused to have my annual contract renewed.

1. Registrars preparing for the FCP Part I are expected to attend a minimum of 75% of the basic sciences tutorials arranged by the Department.   
2. These activities include the Monday afternoon combined clinico-pathology meetings, the Thursday afternoon academic programme, Friday afternoon grand teaching round, and the annual research day.
